The ADVANTAGES of owning an Electric Car are much higher than disadvantages. Here’s why:
1. They are Environment friendly
For many car drivers, simply knowing that electric vehicles are better for the environment is reason enough to make the investment. Electric Cars don’t even have an exhaust system, therefore they have ZERO emissions. Fuel cars contribute heavily to greenhouse gas building in the environment. So owning an Electric Car can help create a cleaner and healthier planet
2. Electricity is cheaper than fuel
Electric cars run on 1/3rd the cost of fuel cars! This is because Electricity is much cheaper then fuel. They can be recharged at home saving trips to the fuel station and if a solar panel is used then even more money can be saved.
3. Even maintenance is less expensive
Electric cars don’t need oil changes or other maintenance related to combustion engines. Also their breaks don’t wear so quickly which means more savings.
4. They are noise free
Fuel cars even with smaller engines make a lot of noise. But Electric cars are practically silent. This reduces noise pollution on the roads
5. You can get tax credits.
Most countries promoting use of Electric cars provide Tax credits because they help reduce impact on the environment with a zero emission car. As the Indian government will be promoting Electric cars, this will be great news for Indian Electric car owners
There are a few DISADVANTAGES to consider before buying an Electric Car:
1. They need to be charged often
Though this is something improving constantly, compared to Fuel cars, Electric Cars need to be charged more often. On full charge, most of them are limited to 100 miles though some an now go upto 300 miles.
2. Recharging takes longer than refuelling
Most Electric Cars can be recharged in a few hours compared to fuel cars which take only minutes to refuel. Some Electric cars even take upto 20 hours to recharge.
3. They are more expensive to buy
Even the more affordable Electric car models start in the $30,000 to $40,000 range, while luxury models cost around $80,000s and upward.
4. Charging stations may not be available everywhere
Especially in countries where they are not so common, charging stations are limited so it is not possible to go on long road trips.
5. There are fewer choices.
There are variety of Electric cars available but not so many as Fuel cars. This is because Electric cars is still a growing market and by the next decade, consumers will have a lot more choice.
